Gir National Park Reopens for Safari from 16th October 2025

Latest Update : For the upcoming season 2025/26, safari bookings are open for Gir National Park. Always book your safari in advance.

The most awaited season for wildlife tourism has officially commenced, as Gir National Park in Gujarat has thrown open its wild gates for safari tour, starting October 16, 2025. This day marks the conclusion of the annual monsoon-related lockdown of the wildlife facility (from 16th June to 15th October). The recommencement is an opportunity for visitors to once again step into the exclusivity of nature and immerse themselves in the experience, feel the adrenaline rush of spotting wildlife species, and explore the natural habitat of the endangered Asiatic Lion.
The Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, encompassing an area of 1412 square kilometers, is a major biodiversity hotspot, sheltering and conserving a huge population of not just the Asiatic Lion, but also over 40 species of mammals as well as approximately 425 species of avian species, making it a haven for passionate birdwatchers too. Whereas, sambar deer, chital, nilgai, chinkaras, and even leopards are the most common finds in the park’s vicinity. Thus, offering an intriguing insight into wildlife habitat that reflects rarity through big cats and a plethora of floral and faunal species.
Wildlife safaris at Gir allow for an ideal way to explore and sight the park’s rich biodiversity whilst venturing through dense forests and hilly terrain. Although setting out on such expeditions necessitates a safari permit, and visitors are advised to book the same through official portals, ensuring seamless access to the sanctuary and minimizing hassle.
In addition to this annual reopening of Gir National Park, which will allow wildlife aficionados, photographers, and nature lovers a chance to venture into the wild nature, it is equally important for conservation awareness and is expected to catalyze Gujarat's local economy through the significant increase in safari bookings and tourism activity.
